3D printing for the home — 15 useful things worth printing

15 useful things for the home worth printing on a 3D printer
Instead of trawling the shops or ordering from AliExpress with three weeks’ delivery, you can print the thing you need in a few hours, exactly to your dimensions. We’ve collected 15 practical items that customers order from us most often. Each one is tried and tested.
Kitchen
1. Hooks for kitchen utensils
Self-adhesive hooks or hooks for a rail. The beauty of 3D printing is that you can make a hook to fit exactly the diameter of your rail, which you won’t find in a shop. We print these in batches of 5–10 — one of our most popular household orders.
Material: PLA — strong enough for light utensils.
2. Pot lid holder
Lids are an eternal problem. A holder on the inside of a cupboard door frees up space and ends the chaos. We design it for a specific number of lids of different diameters — so everything fits perfectly.
Material: PETG — holds more weight and isn’t afraid of moisture. More about the difference between PLA, PETG and TPU in a separate article.
3. Spice organiser
A tiered stand or a wall rack for jars. Measure your jars, set the dimensions — and you get an organiser that fits your cupboard perfectly. One of our customers ordered one for 24 Kotanyi jars — it fitted to the millimetre.
Material: PLA — the load is minimal.
Bathroom
4. Toothbrush holder
A compact holder with holes for water to drain. You can add a compartment for the toothpaste tube. A simple solution that makes the area around the sink much tidier.
Material: PETG — withstands constant contact with water.
5. Soap dish with drainage
A ribbed surface or drain holes — the soap doesn’t go soggy. It prints in an hour and lasts for years. We printed one for our own office — it’s been working without problems for two years.
Material: PETG — for a damp environment.
6. Shower head holder
The standard bracket broke or doesn’t fit? A printed holder solves the problem for pennies. The key is to measure the diameter of the rail and the shower head accurately (with callipers, not by eye).
Material: PETG — withstands temperature changes and moisture.
Desk
7. Cable organiser
Clips, holders, guides — small parts that transform a workspace. Charging, headphone and USB cables all stay in place, and nothing falls behind the desk. We print these regularly — it’s one of those items people order again when they move their desk.
Material: PLA — quite enough for light cables.
8. Smartphone stand
With the best viewing angle for videos or video calls. You can include a hole for the charging cable. There are dozens of interesting versions on Printables — from minimalist ones to complex designs with adjustable angles.
Material: PLA — a light item with no special requirements.
9. Stationery holder
A pen pot or a multi-compartment organiser with sections for paper clips, sticky notes and USB sticks. Any design — from geometric to themed. It can be made in your company colours.
Material: PLA — a big choice of colours, including silk and matte.
Repairs
10. Spare parts for household appliances
A broken fridge foot, a shelf bracket, a door latch — little things that sometimes mean replacing a whole appliance. 3D printing lets you recreate the broken part in a few hours. Customers bring in the broken original part — we measure it, model it and print a copy. This is one of our most frequent types of order.
Material: PETG — strength and resistance to loads.
11. Furniture handles
A cupboard handle broke and that model is no longer made? A printed handle can replicate the original or become a stylish replacement. We recently printed a set of 12 handles for a kitchen — the customer wanted to change the style of the furniture without replacing it.
Material: PETG — withstands daily use.
12. End caps and mounts
Pipe end caps, chair feet, curtain rail brackets — all the things that are hard to find in the right size in a shop. 3D printing is ideal here — every part is made to specific dimensions.
Material: PLA or PETG — depending on the load.
Decor
13. Decorative vases
Geometric, spiral, minimalist — shapes you won’t find in ordinary shops. For dried flowers and decorative arrangements. We print vases in silk PLA — the material has a lovely sheen and looks expensive.
Material: PLA — a big choice of colours and textures.
14. Photo frames
Tabletop or wall-mounted, in non-standard sizes and shapes. Especially useful for unusual photo formats where a standard frame won’t fit.
Material: PLA — strong enough for decor.
15. Figurines and statuettes
Personal figurines, tabletop game miniatures, themed holiday decor. We print in PLA at a 0.12 mm layer height — the detail is very good for FDM.
Material: PLA — the best detail of all FDM materials.
Four more popular orders
Beyond the kitchen, bathroom and desk, customers regularly order four more things.
16. Plant pot
Any shape and exact size, a built-in drip tray or even a self-watering system. We printed a series of geometric pots for a café in Lviv — a whole collection in a single design.
Material: PETG — unafraid of moisture and doesn’t deform.
17. Cookie cutters
Cookies shaped like a logo, a favourite character or a holiday theme. Before New Year and Easter we print dozens of these cutters.
Material: PLA or PETG — the cutter doesn’t get hot; ideally, coat it with food-safe varnish.
18. Lithophanes and personalised gifts
A lithophane is a photo that appears when light shines through thin white plastic. We also print name keyrings, name plates and miniature copies of buildings. More ideas in the article on 3D-printed gifts and souvenirs.
Material: white PLA for lithophanes, PETG if the gift needs to be tough.
19. Electronics enclosure
For an Arduino, Raspberry Pi or DIY device — made to fit the board exactly, with cut-outs for connectors and buttons and ventilation. Details on the enclosure 3D printing page.
Material: PETG — strong and heat-resistant.
How to choose the material
A simple rule: PLA for decor and light items, PETG for parts that touch water or work under load. If in doubt, the detailed comparison of PLA, PETG and TPU will help. Or just message us — we’ll advise.
Most household items cost from 150 to 1,000 UAH. Take a look at our price list.
